The next members’ meeting in Edinburgh will be on Thursday 6th September 2018 at 7.00 pm at the Maggie’s Centre in Edinburgh. Our original speaker has had to drop out but we are delighted to say that our speaker will now be Simon Mackay, Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Science at the University of Strathclyde. In terms of research, his primary interest is cancer drug discovery, and he is the Principal Investigator for a £3m. CRUK-funded programme to identify small molecule inhibitors for the treatment of prostate cancer. The title of his presentation will be: Why is it so difficult to discover new drugs and develop new medicines?
