Patient representatives and advocates have an important role to play in shaping cancer research and services, as new molecular tests and treatments are increasingly tailored to the genetic make-up of individuals’ cancers. Edinburgh University and Leeds University are part of a project entitled “Cancer and Socity in the 21st Century” looking at patient and public involvement in changing cancer care; a film was recently produced to illustrate their work and they spoke to four cancer patients about their experiences of personalised cancer care. One of the people interviewed was Alasdair Ferguson, a member of the Edinburgh and Lothian Prostate Cancer Support Group.
